Xilituzhao is the largest temple in Hohhot. It is located in Shitou Xiang in the old city of Hohhot, 100 meters away from Dazhao Temple.
Xilitu means the Seat of Honor in Mongolian. Zhao means the temple. Xilituzhao was built in the Ming Dynasty by a nomadic nation. Xilituzhao is one of the key historical relics in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. After years of restoration, it has become one of the important tourist attractions.
Xilituzhao was built in a traditional layout of the Han's architectural style. The splendid Grand Sutra Hall (Dajing Tang) is its main body. The hall is decorated with color-glazed bricks, in front of which lies a virtue stele bestowed by Emperor Kangxi of the Qing Dynasty (1644 - 1911).
To the east of the hall, there stands a white stupa at a height of 15 meters (49 feet). Built with carved white marble stones, the stupa is a majestic sight.
Every year, some religious activities are held in the Xilitu Zhao, such as the ritual dance performances and the Buddhist conference.
