Guo Zi Jian, or the Imperial College, is on the northern side of Cheng Xian Street inside the An Ding Men Gate. It was formerly the imperial college in the Yuan, Ming and Qing Dynasties. First constructed in the 10th year of the Yuan Emperor Da De (in 1360), it was the place for training and bringing up talented people and receiving foreign students from different countries. It played a positive role i n uniting with t he fraternal nationalities and promoting cultural exchanges between China and foreign countries. The old college is now the site of the Capital Library.
