The Beaches
Province:

Shandong

City:

Qingdao

Qingdao is famous for its beautiful beaches that line the coast of the city. There are six beaches in Qingdao. The largest beaches found on the southern coast are known as the No.1 Beach, No.2 Beach, No.3 Beach and No.6 Beach.

The No.1 Bathing Beach, with a 580m long and 40m wide sand beach, and a 380m wide sea area from the beach to the shark-proof net, welcomes 200, 000 tourists everyday at its peak time.

No.2 Beach remains peaceful and scenic. The white sand and clear blue waters are edged by lush hills. The hills are where the Badaguan Scenic Area is located and there are also more than 200 colonial style villas.

The No.3 beach, especially, has charm, with kite fliers and lovers scattered about. At the eastern end of the beach, on the hill, is the Huashi Lou, a former German governor's residence built in 1905, with fantastic architecture and decent views of the surrounding area.

The No. 6 Beach, despite its popularity, is not really worth visiting for its beauty. It is mainly rockpools and dirty grayish sand. In the early morning the beach is filled with a profusion of tai ji practitioners, 70s tracksuit wearing joggers and fishermen. The walkway and attached Huilan Pavilion, the symbol of Qingdao, are essential tourist destinations, although often packed with touts, vendors and visitors.
