Penglai has been closely associated with the legend of the eight immortals and regarded as the Fairyland on Earth by the scholars of the ancient. In view of this, Penglai Pavilion was built on the top of the mountain near the seaside. It ranks as one of the four most famous pavilions in ancient China. The whole pavilion covers an area of 32,800 square meters with the construction area reaching 18,960 square meters. All the buildings are properly distributed in great harmony. Penglai Water Fortress is the place where General Qi Jiguang trained the navy to fight the Japanese bandits, which has earned a reputation for it in the world. Another wonder should go to the mirage which can be occasionally seen due to the air conditions in Penglai.
Penglai Pavilion Scenic Area is perched on top of Danya Mountain at the northernmost part of Jiaodong peninsula, Yantai. The scenic area includes Penglai Pavilion, Penglai Water City, Penglai Pavilion Xiyuan, and so on.
