Lugou Qiao (Marco Polo Bridge)

A white marble bridge spanning the Yongding River, Lugouqiao is located 15 kilometers southwest of Beijing. The bridge is 266.5 meters long, 7.5 meters wide with 11 arches, 485 lions were carved on its balusters. The Italian traveller Marco Polo admired the bridge greatly some 700 years ago. ”The Morning Moon over Lugou" is one of the well-known " Eight Views of Yanjing" . So this place has been a tourist attraction since early days. It is also the site of the " July 7 Lugouqiao Incident”. It was here that on July 7, 1937 Japan began the full-scale war of invasion against China and the War of Resistance Against Japan was started here.
