Jade Spring Park, commonly known as Black Dragon Pond Park (Heilongtan Park), is one of the most beautiful parks in all of Lijiang. The park derives its name from the fact that the water in the pond is clear and pretty, like a piece of jade. Qianlong, the emperor of Qing dynasty, called it "Yuquan Park" and wrote it here.
Jade Spring Park is well known in Lijiang. It is protected by Yunnan Province. Longshen (the sprint of dragon) Temple was built in Qing Dynasty in the east. The dragon is the sprint of China. Now here is a library. There are many Dongba Culture in it.
Deyue Pavilion has three stories with the four sides facing water, and many pictures and drawings in the beams, pillars, Doors and windows. "Deyuelou", meaning Deyue Pavilion, was inscribed by Mr. Guo Moruo, the famous writer, poet and social activist. Mr. Guo wrote couplets in Deyue Pavilion.
The thirteen peaks are reflected in the pool. The diving dragon is in heaven while the flying one on earth. The jade water runs about half a mile. The dark jade is the body while the green one is the spirit.
Five-Phoenix Pavilion in the park is a historical place of interests. It was built in the Ming Dynasty. It is 20 meters high with 3 stories and 24 angles. Looking at it from any direction, you can see 5 angles on every floor. So we call it "wufenglou", meaning Five-Phoenix Pavilion.
In Ming Dynasty Mr. Xue Xiake, the famous tourist once stayed in the pavilion eight days. Now there are many precious historical relics and works of calligraphy and drawing in Five-Phoenix Pavilion.
