Built in the first year of Emperor Qianlong of the Qing Dynasty (1736), Jilin Confucian Temple looks resplendent and magnificent. The temple is ranked as one of the four largest of its kind along with the Qufu, Nanjing and Beijing temples. The layout here is in a similar style to the Nanjing Confucius Temple.. In terms of sheer size the Jilin temple is second only to that in Qufu, Shandong Province, home to the great philosopher and educator himself.
The statues of Confucius and his disciples are enshrined inside the Dacheng Hall which also contains an exhibition of Confucius' life and career, a display of ancient carvings of the saint's career, a showroom for the tapestry portraits of Confucius' descendents and their wives of 70 generations. A painting shop and Jilin forest of steles also stand in the temple.
