The academy officially opened on June 16, 1924, during the first cooperation between the Kuomintang and the Communist Party of China. It was founded by Dr. Sun Yat-sen, with the help of the Communist Party of China and former Soviet Union, to train military officers. It is situated in the Huangpu district of Guangzhou.
The building today houses a revolutionary museum and the rooms here have maintained their characteristically spartan appearance.
