The southern part of Shantou is Hanjiang Plain. The northern part is hilly area. Han River flows to the sea here. Along the coast, there are a lot of islands and ports. Shantou is one of the fishing zone in Guangdong province. The highway, ocean shipping and inland water transports are all convenient. Shantou port can moor the ships with 500 tons. Shantou and nearly 20 cities are open to navigation.

The places of interest here are Seaside Park, Peach blossoms Cave and Longquan Cave. Also, there is Mayu Island, the Queen Temple in Qing dynasty and Sea-watching kiosk. The traditional specialties are Chao embroider, porcelain, shell caving, Shumei velvet, oranges, bananas and pineapples.
